Maspeth, Queens Snaps by Rob Stephenson

Photographer Rob Stephenson shares some recent photographs from his exploration around the city, specifically in Maspeth, Queens. Rob's on-going project, The Neighborhoods, is a comprehensive survey of every neighborhood in New York City, documented through photography, field recordings, and writing.

From Rob, "For years I've been photographing the Queens neighborhood of Maspeth, initially drawn in by the disquieting juxtaposition between the DSNY's towering incinerator smokestacks and the endless sea of weathered headstones in Mount Zion Cemetery.  Maspeth is one of the first settlements in Queens, its location on the Newton Creek making a thriving center for industry.  Recently, I revisited the area during a winter storm, when a coating of fresh snow softened the neighborhood's edges."
