Richard Egielski is an American illustrator/writer originally from New York. His artwork has been featured in over 40 children's books 8 of which he has written and illustrated himself. Egielski's work features a lot of iconic New York imagery and characters native to the city. His books have been a big influence on countless childhoods, some of the personal favorites include Tub People, and Hey, Al for which he was awarded the 1987 Caldecott Medal for his illustrations.
